Gillingham skipper Adam Barrett earned the praise of boss Martin Allen after his 88th-minute header in the 2-2 draw at Plymouth.

The 32-year-old defender was snapped up from Bournemouth by Allen over the summer and picked the perfect moment to bag his first goal for the Gills, with the header coming against one of his former employers. Allen said: "Adam has got a great record scoring goals over the past 10 years. It's one of the reasons we bought him, he gets goals and he is a great leader, captain and professional." Allen went on to reflect on a game his side almost won, adding: "Plymouth played with a lot of passion, a lot of enthusiasm and gave us a right good game, there's no doubt about that. "Our Gillingham players just keep going and we got the break we deserved and in the end we nearly won it, with the one that got cleared of the line."
