Caretaker boss Simon Bassey feels the chances of him being handed the AFC Wimbledon job were hit after a 2-1 loss to Accrington.
The visitors raced into a comfortable lead thanks to goals from Padraig Amond and Peter Murphy in each half. And although Sammy Moore struck in injury time it was not enough for the Dons to get anything from the game, but Massey refused to blame the off-field situation for the defeat. "The players have been sticking together, they're paid by AFC Wimbledon and not by a certain manager," said Bassey, who won his first game in charge against Wycombe Wanderers. "I don't think there's any problems with the attitude of the players. The result hasn't gone our way but they're a good, honest group and they'll move on from this. "I haven't been involved in the new management process. I've been asked to apply, which I did. As a group we'll just keep going and stick together. But against Accrington I felt we lost our way and we switched off at a set piece. "I haven't had any updates on the permanent position but I think the next manager will be in place by the end of next week. I'm employed by Wimbledon and I'll continue to give my all for this club until they tell me otherwise. I'd rate my chances worse than they were before the game, but that's football."
