Chairman insists winger did not cost £50,000

Oxford United have dismissed claims that Peterborough United were paid a fee of £50,000 for the permanent signing Alfie Potter. The winger enjoyed a loan spell at Oxford last season and scored in the play-off final victory over York City which secured the club's return to the Football League. Potter has subsequently signed a two-year contract with the Us and chairman Kelvin Thomas has rejected reports suggesting Peterborough were paid £50,000. Thomas told the Oxford Mail: "The fee mentioned is well off the mark. The actual transfer fee for Alfie was £10,000, plus 25% of any sell-on. "Because Alfie is under 23, there was always going to be some fee or compensation. And we feel that the fee we paid for Alfie is good business in terms of what he can do for us."
