Defender joins on two-year deal

Brentford have confirmed the signing of Alan Bennett on a two-year contract from Reading. The Irish defender spent the whole of last season on loan at Griffin Park and made a huge contribution as Brentford earned promotion from League Two. Bees boss Alan Scott has now secured the 27-year-old's services and is looking forward to working with him again over the next two campaigns. "I am delighted to say that Alan has committed his future to Brentford Football Club," Scott told the club's official website. "Alan was an integral part of the successful side from last year and the continuity this gives us going into the new campaign will be vital to our progress in League One. "Alan represents another huge piece of our jigsaw slotting into place and with two weeks to go until the start of the new season gives us extra impetus." Bennett has been contracted to Reading for the past two years, having started his career with Cork City in his homeland.
