Ardley positive despite defeat

AFC Wimbledon may have lost 1-0 at Havant & Waterlooville but Neal Ardley believes it was perfect preparation for the new season.

Friday night's defeat, which came less than 24 hours before their friendly with Aldershot, saw Ardley use a number of his first-team players including Ade Azeez and George Francomb and he was pleased with the workout. "In the second half it was a full-blooded game and in terms of intensity it was as close to a League Two game as we were going to get," he told the club's official website. "The likes of George Francomb, Chris Arthur and Callum Kennedy were out on their feet by the end and they were taken up to levels that they had not previously reached in pre-season. "It was end-to-end stuff in the second half. I thought the attitude and work ethic of the boys was excellent. I always want to win games, but there were a lot of positives to take from it."
