England and Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has taken a trip down memory lane as part of a new Sky Sports campaign to help fans win tickets to see their Premier League team.

Shearer, who leads the all-time Premier League scoring charts with 260 goals, reminisced about his first visit to St James' Park as part of a new fan campaign - #MyFirstGame - launched in conjunction with league title sponsor Barclays.

The 44-year-old recalls an opening-day clash back in August 1982 when debutant Kevin Keegan scored the winner.

Fans queued from 9am and more than 35,000 eventually packed into St James' to see the £100,000 signing - persuaded to drop a division by then-boss Arthur Cox - help see off QPR 1-0.

Shearer, later signed by Keegan for his boyhood club, remembers the match as a seminal moment in his own stellar career.

"I started off at the back of the Gallowgate End and ended up at the front when Kevin scored," Shearer recalls. "I decided I wanted to be a footballer that day."

Shearer, with the help of Premier League sponsors Barclays, now wants to help the next generation spark up a love affair with football and there are thousands of top-flight tickets up for grabs.
