Leicester City issued a statement confirming that manager Nigel Pearson remained in charge at the club on Sunday night.

Confusion had surrounded Pearson's future after sources had claimed the 51-year-old had been dismissed by the Premier League strugglers.

But Leicester denied he had been sacked, confirming he will be in charge for Tuesday night’s trip to face Arsenal.

A statement on the club's website said: "Leicester City Football Club would like to clarify its position relative to its manager, Nigel Pearson.

“Contrary to media speculation on Sunday evening, Nigel remains the Club’s First Team Manager. Reports to the contrary are inaccurate and without foundation.

Nigel Pearson and James McArthur explain their extraordinary touchline clash

Nigel, his staff and the first team squad are entirely focused on Tuesday night’s trip to Arsenal and our continued efforts to secure our position in the Barclays Premier League."

Reports of Pearson's sacking came a day after the Leicester boss was involved in a bizarre incident during the Foxes 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Pearson was involved in a fracas with James McArthur after the Palace midfielder had accidentally felled the Leicester boss.

Pearson had initially appeared to playfully grab McArthur around the throat, before helping him to his feet, only to then prevent him from returning to the pitch by grabbing hold of his shirt.

Leicester are rooted at the foot of the Premier League after scoring just three goals in their last eight home league games. They have won only four games out of 24 league matches this season.
