Kris Commons has been called up by Scotland for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Belgium.

The Celtic forward replaces Blackburn's Jordan Rhodes, who has withdrawn along with Norwich midfielder Robert Snodgrass.

Both players reported for duty with ankle injuries and will return to their clubs for treatment.

Commons last appeared for Scotland in March 2011 and has been consistently overlooked by Craig Levein, who last week said the player was "really unlucky" to miss out on selection for the original squad.

The 29-year-old's return coincides with Steven Fletcher's recall and, with Steven Naismith banned and Rhodes now missing, there is a chance both could feature in Cardiff on Friday.

Levein, who then takes his side to Brussels on Tuesday, has also lost Blackburn defender Grant Hanley from his initial squad.
