Genk confirm De Bruyne sale

Belgian champions Genk have confirmed that their winger Kevin De Bruyne has completed his move to Chelsea.

Five-and-a-half-year deal signed

Belgian champions Genk have confirmed that their winger Kevin De Bruyne has completed his move to Chelsea. The 20-year-old has long been linked with a move to the West London giants and saw a deal fail to materialise in the summer. But Chelsea maintained an interest and have now sealed the move, which will see the youngster stay with Genk on loan until the end of the season. Genk revealed that De Bruyne put pen-to-paper early on Tuesday morning, signing a contract that commits him to the club until 2017. Genk have not confirmed the fee, but it is believed that the deal is worth around £7million.

Pleased

De Bruyne admitted he was delighted to have finally sealed the move, telling Chelsea's website: "Yes, it's a little bit of a dream come true. "I've worked very hard and am still very young but have already played a lot of games. To come to a team like Chelsea is a dream but now it's a reality and I have to work hard to achieve the level that's necessary. "In the beginning it was a little bit strange to play in such a big stadium but after a while you don't think about it. It is a nice stadium and the atmosphere was very good." He confirmed he was more than happy to spend the rest of the season back on loan at Genk before being loaned out again next season. "I signed now and now I will go back for six months on loan to play some games and gain more experience," he said. "Next season it would be normal to be loaned out, but I will start the preparations here at Cobham, and if it goes really well maybe I will stay but probably it will be a team a little level less than Chelsea but bigger than Genk."
