FAI hits back over Dunne claims

The FAI has reacted angrily to reports claiming Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne did not receive proper medical care at Euro 2012.

Villa had been critical of defender's treatment regarding injury

The Football Association of Ireland has reacted angrily to reports claiming Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne did not receive proper medical care at Euro 2012. The Republic of Ireland international is facing up to two months on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on a groin injury. Dunne played in all three matches in Poland and Ukraine, and Villa believe that has contributed to his enforced spell out. In a statement, the Premier League side said: "Richard Dunne will also be out of action for six to eight weeks, having undergone a procedure on a groin injury which he sustained and was not dealt with during the European Championships." But a furious FAI said Villa were kept fully up to speed with the 32-year-old's condition during the tournament. "Richard Dunne received the highest level of medical care during his time with the Republic of Ireland team," an FAI statement read. "All of the medical treatment he received was carried out in full and regular contact, and with the full consent and agreement of, the Aston Villa medical team and so we are very surprised by these suggestions." Dunne, who has yet to make a decision on his international future, will miss the opening World Cup qualifier of the campaign away to Kazakhstan on 6th September.
