Shane Long insists he is desperate to be in the Republic of Ireland squad for Euro 2012 and admits he will be surprised if he misses out.

The striker scored in West Brom's 1-1 draw at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, taking his tally to five for the season.

He has been a regular in Giovanni Trapattoni's side in recent times and scored in the defeat by Uruguay in March.

Ireland are up against World and European champions Spain in Group C and will also face 1968 European champions Italy and 2008 quarter-finalists Croatia.

Give it my all

Long said: "It's brilliant to get to Euro 2012 and I'm going to give it my all to get there.

"I've been involved in every squad the boss has picked so far and I would like to think I will be on the way to Poland and Ukraine.

"We face three massive sides but we always seem to perform in the big games.

"It's going to be tough, but we are going to enjoy it. The whole country really gets up for it."
