Fans behind striker despite bad press

Almost two-thirds of skysports.com readers think Wayne Rooney should face Switzerland in the European Championship qualifier on Tuesday. The Football Association has confirmed that the Manchester United ace will travel to Basel despite allegations about his private life. There has been speculation he would not be in the right mental state to lead the England attack but in the skysports.com poll 64 per cent believe he should take the field. The remaining 36 per cent say he should stay out of the firing line as a result of the allegations. All the signs are though that England manager Fabio Capello will give him the green light to play as the side look to build on their impressive 4-0 victory over Bulgaria in Friday's campaign opener. Sky Bet make Rooney 5/4 joint favourite along with Wembley hat-trick hero Jermain Defoe to score against the Swiss. It is 5/1 for Rooney and Defoe each to find the net and they are both 33/1 shots to grab hat-tricks. England are 5/6 favourites to win with Switzerland 3/1 and the draw at 11/5. You can watch the whole game live on Sky Sports HD 2 and 2 and in 3D at selected pubs. See the latest odds
