Lille, PSG, Rennes and Sochaux all claim victories

Defending champions Lille won in Ligue 1 on Sunday, as did Paris St Germain, Rennes and Sochaux. Lille claimed their home first win of the new Ligue 1 season after edging a thrilling contest against last season's runners-up, Marseille. Moussa Sow scored the only goal of the first period before Marseille surged ahead when Mathieu Valbuena struck twice in seven minutes. Marseille's lead lasted just three minutes though, as Aurelien Chedjou equalised before Sow scored his second from the penalty spot on 75 minutes to seal victory. Lille's win moves them up to seventh but Marseille's early woes continued as they were left searching for their first win after four games. Two last-gasp goals snatched a 3-1 victory for Paris St Germain to end Toulouse's unbeaten start to the Ligue 1 season. The visitors, who have invested heavily in their squad over the summer, had only managed one win in the league heading into this fixture. They found themselves trailing at Stade Municipal to a first-half strike from Etienne Capoue, but Kevin Gameiro equalised before late goals from Mevlut Erding and Jeremy Menez silenced the home crowd.

Mauling

Rennes put last weekend's four-goal mauling by Montpellier behind them as they recorded a second win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Caen, although they nearly let it slip. Razak Boukari, Jires Kembo-Ekoko and Kader Mangane all scored before the break, with Caen missing a penalty through M'Baye Niang, and the game looked to be over. But Thomas Heurtaux and Frederic Bulot netted within three minutes of each other in the second half to slash the deficit, only for Caen to fail to find an equaliser. Ryad Boudebouz's double ended St Etienne's unbeaten record as Sochaux bounced back from their midweek Europa League exit with a 2-1 victory. Sochaux were stunned 4-0 at home by Metalist Kharkiv on Thursday but it was a different story at Stade Auguste Bonal as Mehmed Bazdarevic's men picked up a second successive league win. Boudebouz opened the scoring early on and although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang levelled the scores 10 minutes before the break, the midfielder was on target again from the penalty spot after Fabien Lemoine fouled Sebastien Corchia. St Etienne were then reduced to 10 men when Paulao was dismissed in the 66th minute for bringing down Modibo Maiga from behind.
