Monaco are close to agreeing a deal with relegated Caen to sign experienced striker Steve Savidan.

Caen chairman expects to agree fee for striker's sale

Monaco are close to agreeing a deal with relegated Caen to sign experienced striker Steve Savidan. The France international only joined Caen last summer from Valenciennes and scored 14 goals in Ligue 1 last term. However, Caen's relegation has prompted speculation the club will cash in on Savidan, who signed a new contract in February to stay until 2012. Caen have been discussing a possible sale with Monaco and it appears a fee in the region of 4million euros (£3.4million) is near to being settled upon. Savidan, who turns 31 on Monday, is reported to have already agreed personal terms with Monaco and Caen chairman Jean-Francois Fortin expects a successful conclusion to the negotiations. "It has improved," said Fortin. "I am in talks with Marc Keller (Monaco's sporting director) and we have each made concessions. "I hope, and I believe, that later on Monday a solution will be found."
