Portugal striker Hugo Almeida admits he would be open to a Bundesliga return after his contract with Turkish side Besiktas JK expired.

The Bosman-bound forward claimed he would relish playing in the German top-flight again after featuring in Portugal’s 4-0 reverse at the hands of Germany in the FIFA World Cup on Monday.

It was great to shine on that stage. I enjoyed it. Maybe I am able to return to Bundesliga, maybe I am able to play in the German league again.

Almeida has plenty of experience in the division, having netted 41 goals in 117 appearances for Werder Bremen during a four-year spell at the club.

The 30-year-old says the Bundesliga is one of the premier competitions in world football and revealed he would be open to a return.

“Bundesliga 1 is a great European competition, maybe one of the best leagues in the world,” he told Sport1 Media.
