Money: Point is vital

Richard Money hailed "a really important" point after his Cambridge side salvaged a 1-1 draw with Stevenage.

Robbie Simpson struck deep into second-half stoppage time to equalise for the hosts following Dean Well's first-half opener. It was the second game in a row in which the U's had earned a point in such late circumstances, having also done so at promotion-chasing Shrewsbury last weekend. "As is our want at the minute we've played well but come in behind again," Money said of the half-time score. "I just think we need to be able to get a bit of freedom in scoring the first goal. Not scoring the first goal so often recently we're always trying to come back in the game. "A couple of times we've chased it too quickly and ended up two or three behind. The last two weeks we've been a lot more sensible in the way that we've tried to get the game back, knowing that there's always 90-plus minutes in the game. "So for the second week in a row it's a really important late goal for us that makes the gap (on the relegation zone) a little bit bigger. "We're not playing particularly well, it's a struggle at the minute. I thought first half we did play well enough to be in front, and then maybe if we can make that happen it would give us a lot more freedom to go on and play but at the minute it's a little bit nervy and a little bit inconsistent." Simpson's goal also cost Stevenage a place in the play-off spots on Saturday night. Stevenage boss Graham Westley believed that the draw was a fair result despite the lateness of Cambridge's goal. "I think we got probably what we deserved," he admitted. "I don't think either side did enough to win the game. We were fairly comfortable at 1-0, they weren't causing us too many problems in open play but certainly at set plays they put a lot of balls in our box. "We defended quite resiliently on the whole but late on if you keep inviting the ball in your box you can concede. We made a mistake and it's in the back of our net, so it's disappointing to drop points at the end but I think a draw was probably a fair result. "You want to see those games out but we've got a lot of young players who are probably learning to play with a bit of pressure and expectation on them, which is good. "We made mistakes today: they only prove costly if you don't learn from them. I think a lot of our young players will learn from the errors that crept in."
