Sheridan irked by defending

Plymouth manager John Sheridan was furious with the manner of Bruno Andrade's late winner in his side's 1-0 defeat at Stevenage.

A scrappy match played on a poor pitch looked destined to finish goalless before Andrade snatched the points for Stevenage in the 89th minute to round off a swift counter-attack following a Plymouth corner. Stevenage are now level on points with their opponents and one point behind seventh-placed Newport, who visit the Lamex Stadium on Saturday. Sheridan said: "Obviously it's a tough result to take with them scoring so late in the game as I don't think we deserved to lose the game. "But the criminal thing about their goal is that it's come from our corner - it's pathetic, you can't just switch off and it is criminal how they've ended up scoring from it. "That's come from people not talking and being switched on and just being wary because usually when you have a corner it comes out, you're lucky if you're score a goal. "Most of the time it's going to come back out and you're going to have to be ready for it and we weren't, which is just criminal. "It's spoiled what I thought was a decent performance. "It was a horrible game on a horrible pitch, but I thought we dug in and we had a good go. "It's just disappointing that we haven't got anything from the game." The closest Plymouth came to scoring in the match was when Bobby Reid volleyed against the crossbar from Drew Talbot's cross after 17 minutes. Very late in the game Stevenage seized victory as Dean Parrett's superb pass sent Andrade through on goal and he kept his composure to score. Stevenage boss Graham Westley said: "The conditions were very difficult in the first half when the wind was blowing strongly right to left and it kept us on the back foot. "When it's easy for a side to turn you and force the game up the pitch and it's difficult for you to get out, you have to dig in and be strong, which we did in the first half. "Then in the second half we came out and we were bright and front-footed and took the game to them. "It was a tight game, it was a difficult pitch to play on again and with their back five it was always going to be a game where you have to be patient. "But we knew they concede late goals and sure enough it was a late goal on the counter-attack that won us the game - Bruno did very well to put the ball into the net."
