Boss beaming with pride after Spurs stalemate

Stevenage boss Gary Smith was full of praise for his players after seeing them book an FA Cup fifth round replay with Tottenham. The third tier promotion hopefuls held their own against Premier League opposition for long periods on Sunday, going on to secure a 0-0 draw. Few gave Stevenage much hope against a side flying high in the top tier, but they dug deep to keep Spurs at bay and created a number of half-chances of their own. Smith was delighted to see their hard work rewarded, with Boro now readying themselves for a trip to White Hart Lane and a second shot at claiming a memorable scalp.

Energy

"I thought today we prevented a tremendous Tottenham side from creating more than they are probably capable of," he said. "There was just a bundle of energy about the team. "I thought that when that intensity dropped towards the end of both halves, the players' ideas and organisational skills to keep some very talented individuals at bay was fantastic. "I am very, very pleased for them and all of their efforts. They have come away with a result, which is great."
