Stevenage manager Graham Westley remained upbeat despite watching his side go down 1-0 in a close encounter at Carlisle.
Defender Peter Murphy scored the goal that won Carlisle promotion back to the Football League the last time the teams met six years ago, and he returned to haunt Boro with a first-half header.
Stevenage, 13th in League One following last season's promotion, have now suffered back-to-back defeats having gone down 2-0 to Notts County the week previous.
Yet Westley said: "One of the important things for everybody to realise is that when you jump up a level sides are a bit stronger, a bit quicker, organised and have tactical ability. It can take time to adjust.
"We've not been getting beaten heavily - just edged out. It was only margins that beat us so I'm positive about the situation.
"It's the second time in eight days we have conceded from a set-play. It's disappointing but what does not kill you makes you stronger."
