Laws confident of one signing before the weekend

Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws is confident of signing two new players in the next week, with one due to arrive before Saturday's trip to Ipswich Town. The Owls squad has been decimated by injuries of late, but Laws told skysports.com he is confident of bringing in reinforcements sooner rather than later. Wednesday's run of four Championship games without a win sees them seven points off the play-offs, but well clear of the dreaded drop-zone. "I am hopeful of trying to get some fresh faces in and I am fairly confident something might happen before Saturday, to get at least one in," he said. "I am also attempting to get a second one in by next week, so in the next seven days we are looking to get two extra bodies in."

Duo leaving

Both Jimmy Smith and Bartosz Slusarski have returned to parent clubs Chelsea and West Brom respectively and Laws added that neither will be returning to Hillsborough anytime soon. "Bartosz has gone back and we have made a decision not to take it any further, which allows me to strengthen in other positions, so we are now moving on in another direction," he continued. "We won't be extending Jimmy Smith's loan deal either and those two going back to their respective clubs have allowed me to hunt for some new signings." More good news for Owls fans comes in the shape of defender Richard Hinds' comeback from injury, with the former Scunthorpe defender set to get a shock recall for the trip to Portman Road. "He has been training solidly for four weeks now and due to the current injury situation at the moment he might even be on the bench for Saturday. "He's had his first reserve outing and he is the fittest he has ever been, so he might even be a surprise inclusion."
