Oxford manager Chris Wilder conceded that his side were lucky to walk away from their side's clash against Dagenham with a 2-1 win.
A spectacular overhead kick from James Constable in the eighth minute was cancelled out by Rhys Murphy on the stroke of half time, before Dave Kitson's header in injury time broke Dagenham hearts.
"I thought we defended manfully through wave after wave of attacks, and we were outstanding in the first half," he said. "We just got caught up in it a little bit. Good sides show good reactions to disappointment, and we went again.
"As you've seen there's some excellent teams at the top of this league.
"It's a competitive league as seen yet again with Dagenham who are an unfashionable side, but they gave it a right go and Wayne (Burnett) will be deeply disappointed that they got that close and didn't pick up a result."
