Mullins returns to Rotherham

Rotherham have recalled centre-back Johnny Mullins from his loan spell at Oxford as they battle with a crippling injury list.

With defenders Craig Morgan (broken leg), Dale Tonge (knee/ankle) and Kari Arnason (shoulder) occupying the treatment room, boss Steve Evans was forced to play midfielder Jason Taylor at centre-half during Tuesday's 3-2 defeat at home to Wycombe. With some abject defending on show in that game, Evans has finally recalled Mullins, who was last season's player of the year, cutting short his time with Chris Wilder's side, where he was due to stay until January. "Given the alarming and unprecedented injury crisis which seems to be never abating, I have had a number of proposals sanctioned by the chairman which include the immediate recalling of Johnny Mullins from Oxford," said manager Steve Evans, who has 10 first-team players out. "This was a consideration earlier this week until we had an agreement in place with a Championship club to sign an experienced central defender. "However, that fell through when the player was injured in a practice match on Monday morning."
