Liam Davis has thanked Chris Wilder after the Oxford manager handed the injury-hit defender his first start of the season.
The full-back, who had not featured since May due to injury, was introduced as a second half substitute in Oxford's defeat to Dagenham last week before playing 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw with Torquay on Saturday and he insists he will only get better now.
He told the Oxford Mail: "It was very tough. I've been doing a few running sessions, but I haven't really been back training very long, so the gaffer showed faith by throwing me in and I'm grateful for that.
"I've been injured for a long time, but you could see spells of what I used to do. There's a bit more fitness and strength to come, along with getting my confidence back on the ball."
That point leaves Oxford in 17th place in League Two ahead of away trips to Chesterfield and Barnet.
