U's victory delights Wilder

Oxford boss Chris Wilder said securing all three points was all that mattered after his side registered a 2-1 victory over Dagenham.

Wilder's side earned their first win in four games thanks to James Constable's late strike. Constable buried a low shot between goalkeeper Chris Lewington and his near post 10 minutes from time after the Daggers had threatened to steal a point. The first half had been a very poor spectacle but Wilder was delighted with the win, which sees seventh-placed Oxford strengthen their push for a play-off place in npower League Two. "It wasn't a great performance. It was a tight game but we took our chances, and the substitutions we made in the second half added something, I thought," Wilder said. "The first half wasn't very good but you've got to give the players some leeway and I bet most games around the country would be like this because teams haven't played for a while. The main thing was that we got the result." Constable's winner was his 10th goal of the season, and a first strike in 2012 for the forward nicknamed Beano. Wilder added: "Hopefully now this will give Beano a boost to go on a run, and hopefully we'll go on a run now, which I said we need to try and do."
