Striker Dave Kitson has brushed off reports linking him with a move away from Portsmouth and says he is looking forward to helping manager Michael Appleton drive the club forward.
Thirty-one-year-old Kitson - who has three Championship goals in 21 games this season - has 19 months left on his current deal at Fratton Park, but insists he is looking forward to playing a big part in Pompey's future.
Appleton has won three, lost three and drawn three from his nine games in charge after replacing Steve Cotterill on the South Coast and Kitson has already seen enough from his new boss to convince him Portsmouth have made a fantastic appointment.
"I'm a big fan of the direction Michael is trying to move this football club in. It's exciting," said the former Stoke forward. "He has got the team organised, we are creating chances and the main thing is he has got the players on board.
"It's an important period on the playing side. If the backing of the new owners is forthcoming, Michael has a chance to build something.
"I want to be part of that, even beyond what I have on my current contract. There is no reason on earth why I would ever want to leave this football club."
Future success
Portsmouth, who are eight points off the Championship play-off places, have a great chance of future success according to Kitson, thanks to Appleton's management technique.
He added: "In the next few years, this club - if it can stabilise behind the scenes - has as good a chance of any of achieving things.
"Michael's very, very fair - and he gives you all of the instructions and information you need when you play.
"It's very simple and it's very easy, but you can over-complicate football with tactics and things like that.
"When it comes down to it, if you've got players in the positions you want and you instruct them properly, they will all be on board with what you want to do."
