Duberry is young at heart

New signing Michael Duberry says his age is not a factor in his aim to take a leading role for Oxford United next season.

Speaking to BBC Oxford, the 35-year-old said: "I didn't just come here to take a back seat and just do whatever. I've come here to play football and playing football means to start. "I've just played regular football so age is nothing but a number. I feel fit and healthy and I've got a lot of football left." The former Chelsea and Leeds defender also confirmed his decision to join the U's from St Johnstone was influenced by a desire to be closer to his family. "I was away from the family for nearly 18 months and was not getting to see them for four to five weeks at a time so I was looking to come home to England," added Duberry. "And what Chris Wilder showed did appeal to me, plus I had the bonus of not being far from home, so all together it was something I want to be part of."
