Crawley Town have won the race to sign Scott Davies on a free transfer following his recent departure from Reading.

The midfielder has been allowed to leave Reading and was wanted by a clutch of clubs, including Aldershot Town and Wycombe Wanderers where he has enjoyed previous loan spells.

Colchester United and Northampton Town are also reported to have shown an interest, but the 23-year-old has opted for a move to the Football League new boys.

"Scott Davies has great ability on the ball and has the work rate of a Dannie Bulman, I really believe we have got ourselves a top young player," Crawley boss Steve Evans told the club's official website.

"He is a dead-ball specialist and we will hope to take advantage of that. He is a confidence player and loves to score a goal which is great for a midfielder.

"I know he had a few options to further his career but he knows a few of the lads here and that has helped. I believe he spoke to a couple of them and after that he made it very clear he only wanted to sign for one club.

"If it was just down to money Scott would not be joining us, it was a mixture of a number of things but most of all he wanted to join a team that play football the right way and who are ambitious to progress. That was important to him."
