Jack's the lad for Wilder

Chris Wilder paid tribute to Jack Midson after the striker scored a hat-trick to snatch a thrilling 4-3 win at Torquay.

Striker Midson scored a stoppage-time winner to stun the Gulls, who had fought back from 3-1 down to equalise with 11 minutes remaining. Goals from Tom Craddock and Midson put Oxford in command and Midson added a third after Elliot Benyon had pulled a goal back. But Torquay rallied, with Benyon and Billy Kee pegging Oxford back. Wilder's men were not to be denied, though, and Midson struck right at the death to seal all three points, much to the delight of the Oxford boss. Wilder said: "He's (Midson) had an opportunity and he has definitely taken it. He's a great lad and he wants to be here and so we'll let him get on with it. His attitude has been first class, he wants to play for the football club, which is great." Wilder added: "It's a great result for the football club, I don't think we have ever been disappointed with the character of the team. Consistency has always been the big thing for us and we now need to be consistent. The good teams are the ones that do it week in and week out."
