Mariners warn Posh off defender bid

Grimsby Town have stated Tom Newey is not for sale, after Peterborough United confirmed their interest in the full-back.

Peterborough's official website claimed Posh had made an enquiry for Newey, along with Lee Frecklington and Ricky Holmes.

However, Grimsby are unimpressed by Peterborough's tactics and are not interested in listening to bids for the former Cambridge United and Leyton Orient defender.

Not only are The Mariners against cashing in on Newey, but they are looking to invest in the squad which currently sit in 21st place in League Two.

"We are not looking to lose any of our players and are not interested in listening to any offers," chairman John Fenty told the club's official website.

"In fact, it is quite the reverse, we want to continue building the squad to help us move up the table and challenge at the top end.

"As far as we are concerned it is definitely 'hands off' - that is the message to anyone thinking about an approach."
