Portugal 2 England 2 (AET), Euro 2004 quarter-final

Having missed out on the squads for Euro 2000 and the World Cup two years later, Lampard made the most of his call-up for his first major championships. He scored against France and Croatia in the group stage, before netting an extra-time leveller against hosts Portugal in the quarter-finals. England went on to lose on penalties but Lampard's performances were recognised by UEFA, and he was included him in its team of the tournament.
