Cameroon are beginning their search to replace Paul Le Guen as manager following their worst World Cup performance in their history.
The Indomitable Lions lost all three of their group games to Japan, Denmark and Holland, becoming the first team to officially exit the tournament in South Africa, prompting senior federation FECAFOOT to part ways with the French coach.
Early reports suggest that former Ivory Coast manager Vahid Halilhodzic and World Cup winning captain with Germany Lothar Matthaus are in the frame to take over, according to FECAFOOT president Mohammed Iya.
"I've never met Lothar Matthaus but his candidature has been forwarded to us as well as that of former Ivory Coast coach Vahid Halilhodzic and some 10 others," said Iya.
Matthaus, who was named World Player of the Year in 1990, has managed several clubs in Europe and one in Brazil, as well as Hungary's national team before leaving Israeli club Maccabi Netanya at the end of last season.
Long-term project
Bosnian Halilhodzic has been out of work since being sacked from the Ivorians following a disappointing Afrcian Cup of Nations campaign earlier this year, with his experience in charge of an African team a possible advantage to his chances.
"Already I think we need a new coach who will accept at least a four-year contract," Iya added.
"We must end this series of recruiting coaches on short-term contracts and demanding immediate results. We need a trainer that will spend enough time with the players, know them and build a formidable, strong team.
"In our country, this job comes with a lot of pressure; I can tell you that even I come under strong pressure every day.
