Defender expected to be ready for the start of the season

Rangers have eased fears regarding Madjid Bougherra's fitness as the defender nurses a hamstring injury. The reigning Scottish Premier League champions are confident the commanding centre-half will be ready for the club's opening game of the new season against Hearts on 23rd July. The Algeria international had been forced to return to Scotland on Tuesday morning from the Gers' pre-season training camp in Germany. The problem had kept Bougherra out of friendly dates with Sportfreunde Lotte and Bochum and it was deemed to be serious enough to warrant a scan.

He saw a specialist in Glasgow and was informed that tests revealed no serious damage. Rangers are now hoping for more positive news on the injury front as they wait to hear back on the severity of Kyle Lafferty's latest knock. The Northern Ireland international is currently struggling with a groin complaint. A statement released by the club regarding the striker read: "The expectation is he will be sidelined for between four and six weeks and that means he is definitely out of the Jambos clash."
