Substitute Lukas Podolski grabbed an 81st-minute equaliser to rescue a 2-2 draw for World Cup winners Germany in an entertaining friendly against Australia in Kaiserslautern.

Podolski, on loan at Internazionale from Arsenal, stroked the ball home from close range with his left foot nine minutes after coming on - his 48th goal for his country.

Earlier, Real Madrid's Sami Khedira pounced on a mistake by Crystal Palace's Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak to send Dortmund's Marco Reus through for the opener after just 17 minutes.

Jedinak almost handed the world champions a second goal but this time Reus' effort was saved by Matt Ryan.

The Australians then started to pour forward and James Troisi equalised with a bullet header from a cross by Nathan Burns five minutes before the break.

Within five minutes of the restart, Jedinak, in the middle of a four-game Premier League ban for elbowing, swept in a sublime curling free-kick to put the Asian champions in front.

Troisi then missed a good chance to make it 3-1 to the visitors before Podolski spared the home side's blushes.

Elsewhere, Nicklas Bendtner scored his first international hat-trick as Denmark came from behind to beat the United States 3-2 in their friendly in Aarhus.

Denmark enjoyed most of the early possession but Jozy Altidore put the United States in front against the run of play when he fired home a left-foot shot after 19 minutes.

The hosts levelled in the 33rd minute when Jakob Poulsen's cross missed Lasse Vibe but was pounced on by Bendtner, who slotted the ball into an empty net from five yards out.

The Danes controlled much of the game but struggled to find a finishing touch and Aron Johannsson, who started his professional career in Denmark, restored the United States' lead in the 66th minute when he poked the ball in from Altidore's flick.

The visitors frustrated the Danes for most of the second half with some dogged defending before Bendtner popped up unmarked at the far post to sweep home the equaliser seven minutes from time.

The former Arsenal forward then smashed home the winner past goalkeeper Nick Rimando in the final minute - to the joy of the 10,505 fans.

Denmark will now face France in a friendly in Paris on Sunday while Jurgen Klinsmann's side continue their CONCACAF Gold Cup preparations by taking on Switzerland in Zurich on March 31.
