Beausejour backs survival bid

Jean Beausejour believes his return to the Premier League will not be short-lived because he is confident Wigan can stay up.

Consistency is the aim, says winger

Jean Beausejour believes his return to the Premier League will not be short-lived because he is confident Wigan can stay up this season. The Chilean winger signed for Roberto Martinez's side from Championship outfit Birmingham in the January transfer window. But any thoughts the 27-year-old wideman could be set for a second successive Premier League relegation could not be further from his mind. "I feel happy since arriving at Wigan and I'm very confident about the rest of the season," Beausejour told the Wigan Evening Post. "The feeling around the club is good, very positive, and I firmly believe the future of the club is bright. "And if we can start Saturday's game at Bolton the same way we finished the Everton game, I think we have a big chance of getting a win - which would move us closer to safety."

Lucky

Beausejour helped provide Wigan's goal against Everton - although the fact the ball ended up in the net was owed much to Phil Neville's touch and Tim Howard's goalkeeping error. "I got lucky," admitted Beausejour. "It wasn't my best cross of the game, but it caught a deflection and the goalkeeper came up with a 'blooper'. "I was generally pleased with my crosses, though. It is my main line of work and Roberto has told me he needs me to put as many in as possible. "To be honest, I thought the whole team played well against Everton, but that's no good if we don't win. "Consistency is what we are all aiming towards, and hopefully that will come." Beausejour is also keen for his new team-mates to focus on the next game rather than the fact they are bottom of the league. "For me, for us, it's very important not to look too much at the league table, and worry about it," he added. "The only thing that matters is the next game, it's always the most important one."
