Socceroos stun Germany, Azzurri beat Ukraine

Australia claimed a famous victory over Germany in Tuesday's international friendlies, while 10-man Italy triumphed in Ukraine. David Carney (61) and Luke Wilkshire (64 pen) netted as Australia won for the first time against Germany, whose Mario Gomez had earlier put the hosts ahead. Spurs striker Roman Pavlyuchenko was on target as the battle between the next two World Cup hosts finished all square. Mohammed Kasola put the 2022 tournament hosts Qatar ahead in the third minute before Pavlyuchenko (34) equalised for Russia, the destination for the 2018 finals. Ten-man Italy won in Ukraine after Giuseppe Rossi notched the opener on 27 minutes and substitute Alessandro Matri netted their second with nine minutes remaining. Fellow substitute Davide Astori received his marching orders for a second bookable offence in between. Denmark also posted an away win, beating Slovakia 2-1. The visitors got off to the perfect start when the unfortunate Kornel Salata turned into his own goal after three minutes. But Filip Holosko equalised for the hosts after 32 minutes only for Michael Krohn-Dehli to win it with 18 minutes remaining. Porto star Ruben Micael notched a brace (10 and 71) to help Portugal beat Finland, while Yang Xu also scored twice (37 and 86) and Huang Bowen (17) was on target as China easily saw off the challenge of Honduras. Matias Fernandez and Jean Beausejour scored as Chile beat Columbia, but Greece and Poland and France and Croatia could not find the net in their games.
