Vladimir Petrovic has resigned as Serbia's national team coach after their failure to qualify for Euro 2012.
Serbia came third in Group C after Tuesday's 1-0 defeat to Slovenia with Estonia claiming the play-off place and run-away winners Italy earning top spot.
Petrovic made his decision in agreement with Serbia's football federation, believing it to be the best solution.
"We did not qualify for the next European Championships, and as a responsible people we agreed that the resignation is the best solution," he said.
Petrovic took over from former coach Radomir Antic last year having been sacked as boss of China's national team in 2008 after elimination in the qualifying stages for the 2010 World Cup.
The former Arsenal midfielder was hired by former club Red Star Belgrade but was fired after less than a year in charge.
