Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has trained with his new team-mates for the first time following the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling that relaxed elements of his four-month ban.

Suarez failed in his appeal to have the entire suspension removed but CAS ruled the punishment was overly harsh and allowed him to train and play in friendlies for Barcelona and Uruguay.

The 27-year-old was originally suspended from all football-related activity for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup, which included a nine-match international exile and a £66,255 fine.

Barcelona confirmed that Brazil forward Neymar also trained with the main group on Friday despite not having been given the medical all-clear after breaking a bone in his back during Brazil's 2-1 World Cup quarter-final win over Colombia.

Speaking at the club's training ground, former Liverpool striker Suarez said: "I am so happy to be able to come back to training.

"The sensation is very good now and to train with my new team-mates makes me so happy today. The last few weeks have been a difficult moment for me, but I made a mistake for which I have apologised.

"I have tried to forget everything and I think my focus now is for the future to help the team and to stay with this club for a long time."

Suarez will be presented to the Barca fans on Monday before the Joan Gamper Trophy match, and will be unveiled to the media at a press conference on Tuesday.
