Jurgen Klopp pleased to keep hold of influential forward

Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp is overjoyed Lucas Barrios has remained with the club despite transfer speculation. The 27-year-old striker was linked with various clubs including Premier League outfit Fulham but no deal was secured before the January transfer window closed. The Paraguay international picked up an injury at the Copa America meaning he was ruled out of the first six Bundesliga matches before struggling to re-establish himself in the side. Robert Lewandowski secured the number one striker spot meaning that Barrios only managed to claim one start during the first half of the season before requesting to be placed on the transfer list but Klopp is delighted the frontman remains part of his squad.

Pleased

"There was no attempts made on our part to sell him," he said. "And personally I am very pleased with his decision. "We were very open about it all and could understand that a player of his quality considered a move given the situation. "But no deal was ever done, either with Lucas or with us." Barrios will aim to fight for a place back in the Borussia Dortmund starting line-up for Friday night's Bundesliga game with Nurnberg.
