Experienced defender Hilton has penned a one-year deal with Montpellier after leaving Marseille.
The contract will allow the 33-year-old to prolong his nine-year stay in European football.
The Brazilian began his career in his homeland with Chapecoense, before taking in a spell with Parana Clube.
He then moved to Switzerland and Servette in 2002 and took in a loan spell with Bastia during his time with the club.
Having been given a taste of French football, he linked up with Lens before Marseille came calling in 2008.
Hilton has made close to 200 appearances in Ligue 1 and turned down moves to Evian, Brest and Monaco in favour of Montpellier.
They have swooped for his services after losing Bosnian defender Emir Spahic to Sevilla.
The deal reached with Hilton includes the option for a 12-month extension.
