Nice back on top after derby win

FRENCH leagues leaders Nice regained top spot in Le Championnat thanks to a 2-0 derby win over Marseille on Wednesday night.

With nothing between the sides at the Stade du Ray, the game turned when the visitors were reduced to ten men when Abdoulaye Meite was shown the red card after 52 minutes.

Gernot Rohr's men then took control of the game and went ahead from the resulting free-kick in the same minute through Everson.

Alain Perrin's visitors could not find a way back into the contest and the surprise league pacesetters doubled their lead four minutes from time when Adekanmi Oloufade made it 2-0.

Nice go back ahead of Lyon at the top of the table and maintain their excellent start to the campaign after gaining promotion from Division Two last term.

Auxerre go back into second place, level on points with Nice, after a narrow 1-0 win at home to Bastia.

Benjamin Mwaruwari got the only goal of the game after 78 minutes that was enough to see-off the Corsican side at Abbe Deschamps, as Bastia also ended the game with ten men as Cedric Uras was sent of a minute before time.

Lille grabbed their first win of the season in an amazing battle against PSG that ended 2-1 with five red cards shown.

Vladimir Manchev grabbed a brace in the game either side of a Ronaldinho penalty to earn the 2-1 victory.

Marius Baciu and Mile Sterjovski were sent off for Lille while Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Aloisio and Frederic Dehu all received their marching orders for the visitors.

Rennes came back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw at home to Sochaux thanks to two late penalties in a game that saw both sides end up with ten men.

Pierre Alain Frau and Jeremy Mathieu gave Sochaux the lead before Ibrahim Tall and Toifilou Maoulida were both sent off eight minutes from time.

Olivier Monterrubio then grabbed two penalties on 84 and 90 minutes to earn an unlikely point for Rennes.

Jose Karl Pierre-Fanfan gave Monaco the lead at home to Nantes but turned villain as he was sent off in the 48th minute.

Ariz Makukula had earlier levelled the scores four minutes before the interval but ten-man Monaco grabbed all three points through Souleymane Camara's 72nd minute effort.

Guingamp close up on the leaders thanks to a 2-1 away win at Le Havre as goals from Florent Malouda and Wagneau Eloi cancelled out Olivier Fauconnier's opener.

Ludovic Asuar gave Sedan the lead on their trip to Strasbourg before Corentin Martins's penalty after 28 minutes grabbed a 1-1 draw for the hosts.

Jean-Claude Darcheville scored the only goal of the game to give Bordeaux a 1-0 win at home to Troyes, while the game between Ajaccio and Montpellier ended goalless.
