Diego Costa of Chelsea celebrate scoring a goal with Cesc Fabregas, v Olimpija Ljubljana, friendly

The Spanish playmaker slotted in perfectly to the void left by Frank Lampard, having a hand in all three of Chelsea’s goals as they came from behind to beat Burnley 3-1 on Monday Night Football. While greater tests await, the Blues looked a real force with Fabregas supplying the ammunition for the likes of Diego Costa and his supporting trident to do the damage. While his deeper role alongside Nemanja Matic is likely to prevent the 27-year-old from scoring at a similar rate to during his time at Barcelona, where he averaged almost a goal every three games, assists galore and plenty of Sky Sports man-of-the-match awards look on the cards. Two assists and a MOTM award saw him rack up 15 points against Burnley and Leicester City face a tough task in preventing him from adding to that tally when they visit Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Saido Berahino - £6.9m

With cheap attacking options few and far between, the England Under 21 international provides an interesting option for those looking to balance the books. He showed signs of his potential last season but was limited to a bit part, making just 11 starts and netting five times. If the opening weekend is anything to go on, the 21-year-old is poised for a more crucial role for West Bromwich Albion, scoring twice in their 2-2 draw with Sunderland. A trip to Southampton awaits this weekend and, if he can net again then he’s sure to be on the radar for plenty of Sky Sports Fantasy Football bosses. However, with the Baggies rated as Sky Bet’s fourth favourites for relegation and record signing Brown Ideye adding to competition for places, the concern is whether he will have the sufficient chances to keep producing.

Gylfi Sigurdsson - £6.4m

Gylfi Sigurdsson celebrates scoring Swansea City's winning goal to make it 2-1

As covered in our pre-season ‘bargain picks’ piece, Sigurdsson looks great value for money at the same price as the likes of Nacer Chadli. The attacking midfielder picked up where the left off from his 2011/12 loan spell at the Liberty Stadium, when he netted seven times in 17 starts, scoring the winner against Manchester United. After having his opportunities limited at Tottenham Hotspur, the 24-year-old should flourish in a key role for Swansea City, while his set-piece prowess makes him a Sky Sports Fantasy Football dream. A goal and an assist saw him rack up 10 points at Old Trafford and he looks worth backing to add to that tally when Burnley visit on Saturday.

Eric Dier - £6.4m

Eric Dier

You cannot ask much more from a defender than helping his side keep a clean sheet despite a numerical disadvantage and then scoring a last-gasp winner. That is exactly what Dier did on his Tottenham debut, seeing him rack up 17 points, more than any other player in the opening weekend. However, that goal actually doubled Dier’s career tally, having netted just once in 20 league starts for Sporting. The bigger issue is whether Mauricio Pochettino can sort out Tottenham’s backline, which was all at sea all too often under Tim Sherwood. Dier is hardly cheap at £6.4m and faces competition for his starting spot from the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Michael Dawson but is certainly worth a place on your shortlist.

Andre Schurrle - £7.5m

BURNLEY, ENGLAND - AUGUST 18: Andre Schurrle of Chelsea celebrates scoring their second goal during the Barclays Premier League match between Burnley and

It was somewhat of a surprise to see Schurrle in Jose Mourinho’s starting XI for Monday night’s trip to Burnley but if it is a sign of things to come then the German forward is an absolute bargain. Despite making just 15 starts last season, he still managed to net eight times, while he also scored three times without even starting a match at the World Cup. Chelsea are the bankers of the weekend at 1/5 with Sky Bet for the visit of Leicester and Schurrle provides a cheaper option to the more popular Costa (£9.5m).
