Hasselbaink content with point

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes that Burton may have secured a crucial point in their 1-1 draw at Portsmouth.

The Brewers were heading for only their second defeat under the Dutchman until Darragh Lenihan's 83rd-minute equaliser. The visitors enjoyed the opening stages of the game but Jed Wallace's 12th goal of the season gave Portsmouth a first-half lead. Despite missing an opportunity to soar to top spot in League Two, Hasselbaink says the point could be valuable come the end of the season for his promotion-chasing Albion side. He said: "It is not an easy place to come at all and we will find out at the end of the season whether it is a point gained or two lost. "It's important that we got something out of the game. "We battled through in the second half and I think we deserved something out of the game. "Portsmouth played well the first half and they kept the ball really well when they had. "We did not hurt them enough and our final ball was not good enough - there were too many turnovers." Hasselbaink lauded midfielder Lenihan for rescuing his side a point at Fratton Park. He added: "We know that Darragh has the quality to run the midfield and turn the defence into attack. "I expected us to push on from that moment but it was not meant to be." Portsmouth surrendered their lead with just seven minutes left on the clock - but could well have been out of sight. Pompey striker Matt Tubbs sought his first goal at his new club but was unable to round Brewers goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin in the 30th minute. Tubbs was involved in his side's opener when he teed up winger Andy Barcham whose volley was tipped onto the post by Brewers stopper McLaughlin, only for Wallace to score the rebound six minutes later. But he failed to convert chances of his own and five minutes from time he sent his looping header over McLaughlin's bar from substitute Paul McCallum's cross. Pompey boss Andy Awford is backing Tubbs to steer his side away from trouble after another lively performance - starting on Saturday. Awford said: "He was the leading scorer in the league when we brought him here. We are delighted to have added him into the ranks. "He keeps making those runs, he's worked tirelessly in the last few games. He is always in there and I'm sure on Saturday his luck will turn and he'll find the back of the net for us. "I have four very good forwards and I have good firepower and that can only be healthy. "When you get to the 82nd minute you think you are going to win the game. "Coming away from home here, I think most people will take a point here. "I'm sure Burton will be quite satisfied and we are frustrated we didn't get three."
