Burton manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has signed Crewe goalkeeper Scott Shearer on loan until the end of the season.

Shearer has been brought in to provide cover and competition for Jon McLaughlin, with Dean Lyness recovering from a broken leg and Remi Matthews having this week returned to Norwich following the end of his loan spell at the Pirelli Stadium. The 33-year-old becomes Hasselbaink's first signing of the January transfer window and he is expected to go straight into the squad for Albion's League Two clash with fellow promotion hopefuls Shrewsbury on Saturday. Shearer has more than 300 senior appearances under his belt, after starting out with Albion Rovers in his native Scotland before moving south of the Border to join Coventry in 2003. He has plenty of experience of both League One and League Two having also played for Rushden & Diamonds, Bristol Rovers, Shrewsbury, Wycombe, Wrexham, Crawley and Rotherham - with whom he won successive promotions, before joining Crewe last summer.
