Phillips closing in on comeback

Burton winger Jimmy Phillips is closing in on a long-awaited return from lengthy absence through injury.

Albion's longest-serving player has spent the past eight months on the sidelines after tearing a posterior cruciate ligament against Newport in April. The 25-year-old is closing in on a comeback and could feature on Saturday when Hartlepool visit the Pirelli Stadium, having caught the eye of manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink this week in training. "Jimmy Phillips is training full-time with us now and is ready for selection," Hasselbaink told the Burton Mail. "Jimmy is looking sharper and sharper. I've not seen a lot of Jimmy because we haven't played that many games, but from what I've seen in training, he looks sharp. "He's a player who is very smart, and likes to play one-against-one and can provide goals. "He's somebody that we don't have enough of at the club. "I'm a manager who likes wingers, who likes people who can beat somebody and give the crowd a little lift. Jimmy is one of those."
