Burton manager Gary Rowett was encouraged by his side's display in a 1-0 friendly defeat to Derby.
Jeff Hendrick's first-half goal was enough to earn the Rams victory in the Brewers' penultimate game of pre-season. Derby scored after Johnny Russell's free-kick rattled the crossbar and Hendrick followed it up, heading past Jon McLaughlin, who was starting for the first time since joining Albion. Burton enjoyed large spells of possession and were unlucky not to get anything from the game, although Derby could have had three as Hendrick and Russell were denied by the woodwork in the second half. Rowett told the club's official website: "There were lots of encouraging things once again. In every game so far there have been periods where we've done lots of things well. "It was a very difficult test against a Derby side who were a kick away from the Premier League and in the first half we attacked fantastically well. "We counter-attacked well and got into some pockets of space and I thought the front three looked a real handful. "You could argue that although Derby troubled the goal more than we did, we probably got into as many, or more, positions in the last third where a final bit of quality gets a shot off and we just lacked a bit of composure in front of goal."
