Keeper relishing Albion challenge

Jon McLaughlin is excited to get started at Burton after signing a one-year deal with the club.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper was a free agent after failing to agree a new contract at Bradford, where he played 125 times in six years. He admits Albion manager Gary Rowett's reputation proved to be a big lure. He told the club's official website: "It's a great feeling to have made the move and get a fresh challenge. "It was sold to me by the manager. He seems like a really good guy and people I've spoken to, who have worked with him or with the club have great things to say about it."Whilst he drops a tier to join Burton, McLaughlin played in Sky Bet League Two a couple of seasons ago with Bradford and the side's league standing did not have a bearing on his decision to join the club. "I don't see it as a drop in standard nor a backwards step, as I wouldn't have made the move. "Everything I've heard about the football club is positive and during my time in League One I have always liked the atmosphere and the way the fans were with the team." He arrives to compete with Dean Lyness for the number one jersey, something that does not faze him. He added: "I'm really confident in my own ability and I'm sure I'll give everything I can to be a valuable member to the club and the team."
