Brewers extend Lainton loan

Burton Albion have extended goalkeeper Rob Lainton's loan spell from League Two rivals Bury.

Lainton's initial month-long stay at the Pirelli Stadium expired on Saturday after the impressive 2-1 victory at Oxford but the goalkeeper will now be able to face Portsmouth on Tuesday night having had his deal extended until the end of the season. Albion boss Gary Rowett was confident of being able to keep the 24-year-old for the 93-day limited permitted by Football League rules. However, the new deal is not long enough to include any play-off campaign should Burton fail to finish in one of the three automatic promotion places. Lainton's loan will now run until May 11 with the play-off semi-finals set to take place between May 8 and 17, with the final at Wembley on May 26. Lainton will make his eighth appearance for Albion against Pompey at Fratton Park.
