Gary Rowett saluted Dominic Knowles and Zeli Ismail as Burton grabbed a 2-1 victory over Cheltenham to stay on the promotion trail.

Knowles struck the first goals of his career in the last 20 minutes - both laid on by Wolves loanee Ismail - after Burton had trailed to a Byron Harrison effort. Rowett said: "Dominic has shown what he has to offer as a young striker trying to make his way in the game. "He works his socks off and we know he can finish because we see it all the time on the training ground. "We knew what Zeli was capable of and I think everyone else does now. "I feel I ought to be giving Wolves a ring right this minute and seeing if I can keep him for the rest of the season." Harrison broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute with a 12-yard shot after a powerful run by Jason Taylor. But Knowles put Burton level from close range nine minutes later before grabbing the winning goal in the 85th minute, prompting Rowett to praise the character of his side. The Burton boss said: "First half I thought we looked like a side who hadn't played for 10 days. We looked a little bit leggy, although we still managed to create one or two opportunities. "But in the second half I thought we showed bags of character and, ironically, I thought it made it easier having to chase the game because we just had to go for it. "We are that type of full-blooded team with loads of energy, and I said at half-time that hopefully our fitness would come into play."
