Rowett: McGurk move unlikely

Gary Rowett has played down Burton Albion's chances of signing former Tranmere Rovers winger Adam McGurk.

Several national newspapers linked the League Two play-off semi-finalists with a move for the Northern Irishman over the weekend as they seek a replacement for Jacques Maghoma, who is set to leave Albion this summer. However, while Rowett admits McGurk is a player he would like to bring to the Pirelli Stadium the Brewers boss insists talk of an approach for the 24-year-old is wide of the mark. "Kev (Summerfield, assistant manager) knows Adam quite well from Tranmere and he is a player we would be interested in," Rowett told the Burton Mail. "But I think a player of his ability would have one or two other good options. He was being talked up for a move to the Premier League not so long ago, so I think a move to League Two would not be his priority. "But he is certainly the type of player we would like to bring in." McGurk was released by Tranmere at the end of the campaign following three seasons at Prenton Park.
