Burton boss Gary Rowett was pleased to see former Crewe duo Calvin Zola and Lee Bell come out on top against their old club.
Zola scored the only goal of Saturday's tie at Gresty Road after five minutes. The striker beat home goalkeeper Alan Martin to Jordan Chapell's cross to head in his sixth FA Cup goal on the trot.
Rowett said: "We felt it would be nice to give Lee (Bell) the captaincy. He's done terrifically well this season and has been a Crewe stalwart and he played a real captain's role.
"I'm really pleased for both him and Calvin, it's always nice to do well against your old club and I'm sure this has helped make their weekends a little nicer."
Rowett added: "It was another terrific cup performance and if you said we were through to the third round of both cups and two points off the play-offs at the start of the season, you would have been very pleased."
